The Metal Botanist
Hi! My name is Stef.
I am originally from Philadelphia where I grew up in the DIY/punk community. I spent most of my time going to shows, destroying my clothes, and learning how to dismantle things (and sometimes put them back together).
I started making jewelry back in 2013 in my friends' apartment kitchen when I was living in Providence, RI. We started a shop/collective where we sold redone vintage clothes, jewelry, wood burnings, and some other general oddities. We did a few markets and that was it for me, I knew this was what I should be doing. I spent the next few years working my retail job as an area manager and visual merchandiser while saving all the money I could so I would eventually be able to do this full time.
Fast forward to 2019 when I was living in Brooklyn and The Metal Botanist was born. The name hailing from the mouth of my genius friend Gabriella (check out her amazing artwork) with my original focus on plants, vintage brass, and jewelry. Quickly realizing I wanted to keep botany more of a hobby, I transitioned to what the shop is today: a sustainable spiritual oddities shop.
Now, living in Seattle, I am focused on reworking vintage items inspired by the zodiac along with building up the community of artists around me. I use mostly secondhand items and ethically sourced bones to create talismans to adorn your home and your body. I work primarily out of a studio in a renovated warehouse and happily reside north of downtown with my two cats (Frank and Waffles) in our home full of strange trinkets, plants, and vinyl.
